Road to Canyonlands Maze District
Canyonlands National Park's Maze district is known to be its most wild district. It is a very remote location, characterized by a labyrinth of rock formations, covering 30 square miles. This is the place for those looking to do some real backcountry camping. The Maze district is generally recommended for those looking to spend a few days here to take in all it has to offer.
In the Maze district, you can go on daylong hikes to breathtaking views. Be aware that going backcountry camping does require a special permit which can be purchased at Canyonlands. You will need to get a reservation at least two weeks in advance before you head here, so plan early. The Spring and Fall are generally the most popular season for visitors since these seasons have the best weather. The summer can be pretty hot, and the winter can go to freezing temperatures. Although the park is open year round, be sure you are aware of the weather conditions beforehand so you can properly prepare for the trip.
The Maze district is suggested for travelers who have experience with backcountry camping, since you do have to be relatively self-sufficient. As with most locations like these, there are strict rules to ensure that visitors are kept safe, and the park is kept clean, so be sure to read up on that information. To those up to the challenge, check out the Maze district and absorb some of its history and beauty on your next visit to Utah.
